The single biggest reason churches fail their insurance audits or lose “negligent selection” lawsuits is not the background check itself — it is the absence of a written policy the church can point to and demonstrate that it followed. Screening without a policy is worse than not screening at all, because it creates the appearance of due diligence without the substance.

Every template here is what we would tell you to use if you asked us for a recommendation. Adopt them as-is, edit them for your context, or hand them to your attorney as a starting draft.
